Frequently Asked Questions

Dangerous Goods Shipping,
Explained in Plain Language.

The questions shippers ask us most - answered by IATA-certified dangerous goods specialists. Don't see yours? Call, WhatsApp, or send us a message and we'll answer within 2 business hours.

How do I know if my product is classified as a dangerous good?

Start with your product's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) - Section 14 lists the transportation classification, including the UN number, proper shipping name, and hazard class. If you don't have an SDS or aren't sure how to read it, send it to us and we'll review it for you at no charge.

What is a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and why do I need one?

An SDS is a standardized document from the product's manufacturer describing its chemical properties, hazards, and safe handling requirements. Airlines and carriers rely on it to verify your shipment's classification - without a valid SDS, most dangerous goods shipments can't be accepted for air transport.

Do I need hazard labels on my package?

Yes. Every dangerous goods package must carry the correct hazard labels and markings for its classification under the IATA DGR and Transport Canada TDG regulations. Missing or incorrect labels are among the most common reasons shipments get refused at the cargo counter.

What happens if my shipment is refused or rejected by the airline?

A refused shipment sits in the cargo warehouse accruing storage fees while your delivery window closes. The airline typically issues a Notice of Discrepancy (NOD) stating what failed. Our NOD Rescue service corrects the packaging, labelling, or documentation and gets your freight re-tendered - often same-day at YYZ.

What happens if AÉRO-DG makes a packaging or documentation error?

If a shipment we packed and documented is rejected by an airline due to a mistake on our part, we correct it immediately at zero additional cost to you - no questions asked. See our full service guarantee. This covers our own errors only; if your cargo was packed elsewhere and gets rejected, our NOD Rescue service can still get it moving fast, quoted upfront.

Can I use my own packaging for dangerous goods?

Only if it meets the packing instruction for your product - most dangerous goods require UN-certified packaging tested to specification. If your packaging doesn't qualify, we repack your shipment in UN-certified materials so it's accepted the first time. See our packaging materials.

How much does dangerous goods packaging and documentation cost?

Pricing depends on the classification, packaging requirements, and destination of your shipment - every job is different. Send us a photo of your package and a copy of the SDS through our quote form and we'll provide a personalized quote within one business day. General rates are on our pricing page.

Which transport modes and regulations does AÉRO-DG cover?

Our core specialty is air freight under the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, and all our work complies with Transport Canada's TDG requirements for ground movement. We also advise on IMDG classification for shipments that continue by sea.

How fast is the packing and documentation turnaround?

Standard requests are completed within 24 hours of receiving your shipment details and SDS. Same-day rush service is available for urgent YYZ shipments - call or WhatsApp us directly.
